Pornography: Why you shouldn’t watch?

I don’t understand the legitimacy of pornography. Most of us will conform to the fact that you feel disgusted after watching it.

If arousal suppresses disgust, and porn looks disgusting after arousal, doesn’t it follow that pornography was always disgusting to begin with?

Then, why can’t we stop watching porn?

Coolidge Effect[1]

The Coolidge effect is a biological phenomenon seen in animals, whereby males exhibit renewed sexual interest whenever a new female is introduced to have sex with, even after cessation of sex with prior but still available sexual partners. To a lesser extent, the effect is also seen among females with regard to their mates. Without the Coolidge effect there’ll be no internet porn.

As a result of this whenever a guy sees a new female (novel mate) on screen, his brain releases the “go get it” neurochemical dopamine.

Effect of pornography On Your Mind And Health[2]

Well, researchers don’t know much about the effects of Internet porn because of lack of control groups. In 2009 when Lajeunesse tried to study its impact on brain, he couldn’t find any college males who weren’t using it.

Now, imagine if all guys started smoking at age 10, we would think that lung cancer is normal for all guys.

Arousal addiction symptoms are often mistaken for such things as:

  • ADHD
  • Depression
  • Social Anxiety

Most of the experts, assume that these conditions are perhaps the cause of addiction but never really the result of an addiction.

The Dopamine Surges kicks in Delta-FosB which causes cravings for more and more. Now as Delta-FosB accumulates in brain circuit, it alters brain structure, some of its consequences are:

  • Numbed Pleasure Response: Craving for more hardcore porn.
  • Hyper reactivity to porn: Everything except porn becomes boring in user’s life.
  • Willpower Erosion: Lack of motivation to do something.

And in extreme cases it can lead to ED (Erectile Dysfunction).

Moreover pornography is far from reality and it makes you have irrational fantasies from your partner. And thus causing problems in your life and relationship.

Inhumane Treatment Of Porn Stars[3]

There are many people in our porn-saturated society who think that porn is harmless, personal entertainment. Regardless of all the overwhelming research and countless personal accounts exposing the dark reality of the porn industry. These are popular perceptions when it comes to pornography, however, perception is not always reality. Fact is that the porn industry is filled with violence, drugs, coercion, disease, and exploitation. And while active porn performers rarely, if ever, speak out due to fear of being blackballed in the industry or being discriminated against, the majority of those very same performers inevitably end up speaking out on their real experiences once they leave the industry. These personal accounts are never pretty.

Some of the statements from ex-pornstars:

  • “[One particular film] was the most brutal, depressing, scary scene that I have ever done. I have tried to block it out from my memory due to the severe abuse that I received during the filming.” – Alex
  • “It was the most degrading, embarrassing, horrible thing ever. I had to shoot an interactive DVD, which takes hours and hours of shooting time, with a 104 degree fever! I was crying and wanted to leave but my agent wouldn’t let me, he said he couldn’t let me flake on it. “ – Jessi
  • “I got the **** kicked out of me… most of the girls start crying because they’re hurting so bad… I couldn’t breathe..Was being hit and choked. I was really upset and they didn’t stop. They kept filming. [I asked them to turn the camera off] and they kept going.” – Regan
  • “It was torture for seven years. I was miserable, I was lonely, I eventually turned to drugs and alcohol and attempted suicide. I knew I wanted out, but I didn’t know how to get out.” – Jenna

By watching pornography we are only creating more demand for it.

If you still believe, pornography is not affecting you and people around you, you are living in a fool’s paradise.
